Community health
nurse, Martha Issah, vaccinates a child at the Kubori Health Centre
in Ghana.
Oxfam has given
money to the health centre to buy a fridge for vaccines and a motorbike
to help health workers travel to remote villages.
People are vaccinated
against the six main diseases which threaten children in this area:
cerebral spinal meningitis, polio, measles, diphtheria, tuberculosis
and typhoid. The vaccinations are free of charge.
Health centre
staff also give talks and advice on health care. One local resident
says, 'The motorbike Oxfam provided is doing marvellous work. Now
we are reaching many more people with our vaccinations and the health
centre education work.'
