Oxfam's Control Arms Campaign
Oxfam's Control Arms campaign calls on
governments to put tighter controls on the trading of weapons to
make sure they don't fall into the hands of the wrong people.
There are around 639 million small arms and light weapons in the
world today. Eight million more are produced every year. With so
many of these weapons easily available across the world it is easy
for criminals to obtain arms and inflict suffering. Sometimes children
are even given weapons and made to fight. Read about Jamie
Theakston's trip to Uganda where he met former child soliders.
Oxfam is working to make it harder for people to buy weapons by
campaigning for governments to introduce laws that limit the arms
trade.
Controlling the arms trade will help prevent the loss of
life and make sure people are no longer denied the chance to escape
poverty.
