On Sunday afternoon, everyone was ready for some relaxation, so
they took a trip down the river Niger in Malian punts, called pirogues.
Music was still the priority though so Sata Doumbia was
invited along to play and sing. Sata is the only woman known to
play the ngoni in public in Mali, where women are strongly discouraged
from playing traditional instruments.
Sata explained that she loved the sound of the ngoni so much she
simply had to play it, despite her fear of what people would think.
