In the last
six years, 80 street kids have been given a home at Kititimo. Three
now attend the local secondary school a significant achievement
in a country where 95 per cent never make it past primary education.
Many have also been reunited with their families, or have received
training in a basic trade and have been resettled in the community.
The kids at Kititimo are the lucky few. More than 300 kids still
sleep rough in Singida. Throughout Tanzania there are thousands
more. And in other towns and cities all over the world, millions
of children have no choice but to take their chances on the street.
Kititimo is one example of an Oxfam-supported project that is giving
children the chance to live and learn away from the dangers of life
on the street.
