Make Poverty History in 2005

Graham Norton June Sarpong Denise Van Outen Rhys Iffans

Oxfam is part of a group of organisations who believe that in the year 2005 we have a special chance to join together and make poverty history once and for all. Twenty years after the launch of Live Aid, many stars including Graham Norton and June Sarpong, have come together to show their support for the campaign by wearing white bands.

With the UK hosting the G8 summit meeting of the world's richest countries, and holding the chair of the European Union, we hope to put pressure on governments to make this a special year for the millions of people currently living in poverty. By increasing aid to poor countries, dropping the debt and making trade fair we can help bring an end to global poverty.

As Bono explains:

"We are the first generation that can look extreme poverty in the eye, and say this and mean it - we have the cash, we have the drugs, we have the science. Do we have the will to make poverty history?"

By wearing a MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY white band around your arm or wrist you can show your support for the campaign and help make 2005 the year that we finally make poverty history.
