When people have to live together in crowded areas, disease can spread very quickly. One of the first things that Oxfam does is to install a clean water supply, providing toilets and safe washing facilities. Oxfam volunteers also run education programmes to make sure that everyone knows how to stay clean and safe. Today, Jumeli has been taking part in one of these lessons.

Jumeli explains: “We’ve been colouring pictures, reciting poems, and singing together. We’ve been learning about how not to get sick – for example by washing our hands, covering our food, and keeping mosquitoes away. It’s good fun and we make lots of friends.”
