Oxfam has been working in Bosnia since the bitterly cold winter of 1992-3, when it distributed second-hand clothing and shoes to refugees. Since then, it has been working to help communities overcome the hardships that they face as a result of the war.

Oxfam’s work in Bosnia includes:

helping refugees who are returning to Bosnia by providing support and advice, and setting up programmes so that they can begin earning their own living again;

supporting people who are particularly vulnerable, such as disabled and elderly people, and women;

providing people with information and advice about their rights, and about the dangers of landmines;

working with different ethnic groups to encourage communities to work together, and to reduce the risk of violence breaking out again.
