Oxfam has been working in Kenya since 1964. During the early 1980s
it gave emergency assistance to thousands of pastoralists affected
by long drought in the north of the country. Oxfams work now
is more concerned with making sure that people can support themselves
for years to come.
Oxfams work in Kenya includes:
-
working with other organisations to help communities to manage
in drought conditions (eighty per cent of the country is classified
as arid or semi-arid);
-
supporting poor people living in towns and cities, including
domestic workers, street children, and slum dwellers who
could be evicted from their homes at any time;
-
improving access to basic services such as education
You may have seen on the news recently that the people of East
Africa are facing a food crisis. Up to 3.5 million people in that
region are at risk, but Kenya is having a particularly hard time.

Africa Food Crisis on the main Oxfam website.
