Oxfam has worked in Mozambique since 1984. At first, work was focused
on emergency relief projects in areas that were affected by the
civil war. Since the end of the war, Oxfams work has concentrated
on longer-term development and recovery.
Oxfams work in Mozambique includes:
-
Working with farmers
to help them re-start their small farms and ensure that they
have sufficient food to eat and stay healthy all year round
-
Building schools and
health centres, together with local governments and communities
-
Supporting local organisations which are fighting for Mozambiques
international debt to be reduced so that more money is available
for basic health and education services
-
Helping communities in rebuilding work such as the repair
of roads and bridges
