Mapping our World promotes an exploratory and critical approach to geography. Using this resource will develop skills of geographical enquiry, and encourage pupils to gather, represent, and communicate
evidence and data, make comparisons, and come to their own conclusions. These skills are common to all geography curricula.

In addition, Mapping our World supports work in using and evaluating historical sources, with reference to the context in which they were produced. This work is relevant to curricula in all parts of the UK.

Geography programme of study

At Key stage 2, pupils learn to ask geographical questions, to undertake investigations inside and outside the classroom, and to use a range of skills and resources, including maps and atlases. In particular, this resource supports work in using atlases, globes, maps, and plans, and drawing plans and maps at a variety of scales.

At Key stage 3, pupils learn to appreciate the significance of political, economic, social, and environmental factors affecting geographical issues, and learn to develop their own views about contemporary issues. In particular, they extend their experience of maps and globes, of drawing maps and plans, and of collecting,
recording, and presenting evidence.
