Arctic- Centred

Arctic-centred

Arctic-centred maps are commonly found in atlases now. They are useful because they present such an unusual projection of the world. On most world maps, the land inside the Arctic Circle is distorted, as it is stretched out. This map avoids this distortion. It also shows the proximity of land masses which are usually shown at opposite ends of a flat map, in particular, the Russian Federation and the United States of America. When trying to locate north and south on this map, it is interesting to note that north is in the centre of the map and south is every direction away from the centre.
