This is another equal-area projection, which was introduced in the 1980s in order to represent the shapes of countries more accurately than Peters. It is used by some United Nations agencies, for example, UNICEF.

Like Peters, it stretches land masses near the poles in an east-west direction and, near the Equator, from north to south, but to a lesser extent. However, it does distort land masses at the top and bottom corners of the map, making them slant at an angle. New Zealand is either left off altogether, or moved from its correct position in order to fit on the map. Overall, the shapes of countries in the South are more accurately portrayed than on Peters.
