on the line millennium poems
sent in from Queen Mary's High School, Walsall, in the UK.

Millennium poem
by Katy and Gem, Queen Mary's High School

I live on the line,
the Greenwich Meridian line.
I live in France
where they make lots of wine.

I live on the line
the Greenwich Meridian line
I live in Burkina Faso
where there is a shortage of pine

I live on the line
The Greenwich Meridian line
I live in the UK
where the people like to dine

I live on the line
The Greenwich Meridian line
I live in Algeria
where the people shine

I live on the line
The Greenwich Meridian line
I live in Mali
where we eat barley.

I live on the line
the Greenwich Meridian line
I live in Ghana
where the music is fine

Our Millennium Prayer
by Chazz, Cazz, Jen and Nat, Queen Mary's High School

Make this millennium a millennium to remember,
In all the countries from now 'till December,
Let this carry on 'till the end of all time,
Let there be peace on the Meridian Line.
Endangered species, let there be none,
No more wars to ever be won,
No more destruction of our human race,
In England or in any other place.
Until this happens we will not rest,
Make this millennium the very very BEST!!!!!!!!

THIS IS OUR MILLENNIUM
WE ARE THE FUTURE!!

A poem that we made up about Ghana
by Charlie + Sarah, Queen Mary's High School

"We do know about Ghana,
we know the capital is Accra.

The population is quite small
At just 17.8 million in all.

Ghana seems to be quite big
Sarah's favourite animal is a pig*

They have a variety of languages to speak
They could have one for every day of the week!!!

*sorry, we couldn't think of anything to rhyme with big - any suggestions?????!!!!

Millennium poem
by Jenny, Danni, Abbi and Kelly, Queen Mary's High School

The world today is not a nice place,
Discrimination against age, sex and race.
Unfortunately there is rich and poor,
But we all arrived through the same door.
Who is our government to decide,
How other people live their lives.

Whilst we have unnecessary luxuries,
Others have trouble finding bare necessities.
Our average problem is a minor setback,
Everything we have they tend to lack.
We may have taxes, mortgages and bills to pay,
But others have to cope with disease and poverty everyday.

Our houses are made from brick and mortar,
But their huts are made from only mud and water.
The cold is bitter and the heat is intense,
But our lives are as perfect like a wooden picket fence.
We are kept warm by our central heating,
But they have to fight to keep themselves breathing.

Us together can help save so many lives,
The difference we can make - you'll be surprised.
So heal the world and make it a better place,
Are we not altogether in a human race?

A poem about Algeria
by Lizzie Diskin and Katie Ford, Queen Mary's High School

(rap)

Peace and harmony
Is what its all about
All of us here in England
We're willing to help you out
So now we've decided
Because you're 'on the line'
To help you out with all your probs
And we're gonna make it fine!

Ohhh yeahh!!!

We're collecting money
Because we really care
And we wanna to make a difference
To all you people out there.
We hope that you appreciate
All that we have done
We know it's probably not enough
But anyway we had fun!

Don't be so STUPID!
by lisa & Lizzie, Queen Mary's High School

We wish that the world had cures for all disease,
That no asmatics had a cause to wheeze.

The world should be a nice caring place,
No one would care about each different race.

All the different animals will live in peace,
and that all the wars would come to cease.

Every one should be considered for their individual ideas,
And people could live their lives with out any fears.

The world as we know it is cruel and unsatisfied,
And even enjoying your life is a horrible ride.

Even though you might be kind and paitent,
I am sure you are guilty of acts of descrimination.

These may seem only little acts or words,
but some one is going to get extremly hurt.
