Street kid stories

Scavenging in the rubbish tip

"The children you can see here on the rubbish tip, they're not stupid, and they're not beggars, either. It's another way of earning a living, harder and more dangerous; they're running the risk of disease, accidents, etc. They collect bits of used charcoal and then sell them to buy what they need.

"Should they carry on like this or shouldn't they?

"Poverty is to blame.

"And those people who talk on about the fight against begging and poverty, they should get out and see what it's actually like on the ground instead of staying at home talking about the problems that the children face. If they're really committed to doing something, they've got to get to know the children and the people who work with the children, that's how we'll find a solution."
