| activity You can make your own stamps in Adinkra patterns by
lino-cutting or by making potato prints. You can copy the patterns from this web site or
print out the Adinkra
worksheet for guidelines.
Make
your On the Line Adinkra message
- Pick four Adinkra symbols which you think
say something about On the Line. Look through all the special meanings in the symbols gallery to help you to make a choice.
- When you have picked four symbols, make
stamps for them. To make a stamp, take a large potato, cut it in half, and then draw out
the pattern on it, either by hand or by cutting round the pattern on the worksheet. Remember that you need to cut away the bits you don't
want to print.
- Now take a large piece of black paper and
divide it into sections with thin stripes of paint or coloured paper.
- Using thick poster paint, fill in the
sections with your Adinkra stamps. The traditional colour to use is a shade of rich
red-brown.
Congratulations! You've now made your
Adinkra On the Line message. Can you explain why you chose the symbols you did? What do
they mean to you?
