Diafarabe - life by the river
Erosion is eating away at the riverbank

In 1922 the town extended more than 200-300 metres further than it does now. Where the river is now was once part of Diafarabe, but the town is gradually being eroded away. On the other side of town what was once a tiny passage of water – the Diacka – is now very wide. Each rainy season, when there is a lot of water in the river, big winds stir up  strong currents which cause the erosion. There is nothing we can do to stop it. Many houses just crumble into the river. All we can do is place concrete blocks around the foundations and hope that this will slow down the erosion.
