Mali is a much larger country than the UK. Mali is five times larger than the UK. Mali is 1,240,192 square km while the UK is only 244,100 square km

a lot of people but far more live in the UK: 58.144 million people! There are five times as many people in the UK as there are in Mali. Can you think why people in Mali have so much more space than those in the UK?

For every 1,000 babies born in Mali, 134 will die at birth or soon after, according to 1996 figures. What does this tell you about medical facilities in Mali?

Question 12. How many TV sets are there per 1000 people in the UK?
In the UK we have about 450 TVs for every 1000 people – that’s about half a TV set each! Half a TV set isn’t much good, but in a family of four people, there will be 2 TVs. How many TVs are there in your house?
