Tintihigrene - a village school
Leaving school for the day

When the people of Tintihigrene realised the importance of education, the Chief of the village called a meeting of all the villagers and nomads in the area. The decision to start the school was made. With help from an organisation called Tassaght they constructed a building and provided equipment. School-teacher Hassanat Ag Meinak now teaches 20 pupils: 8 girls and 12 boys, ranging from 6 to 12 years old. "The importance of this school is the same as that of any school, but in a village where no-one can read or write the school has an added importance" he says.
