0.60 Musée Saharien
This stamp shows the Musée Saharien the Sahara Museum.
It is built in traditional style, like a desert fortress. In the
Sahara, the hot sun dries mud bricks so hard that you do not need
to bake them.
You can see
the beautiful Arabic writing too did you know that Arabic
is written from right to left?
Algeria 1c Halte
Saharienne
This picture may look like nothing at all at first, but look harder
and you will discover:
- The vastness of parts of the empty
Sahara and the feeling of loneliness captured by the artist.
- The camel is ideally suited to
the desert.
- The camel's footprints - the camel's
feet are ideal for the sand.
- The lonely tower, perhaps from
an ancient city now lost in the sand. Perhaps an old mosque,
where people worshipped Allah.
- The beautiful and subtle decorations
around the stamp. In Islam, geometry is a way of expressing
the greatness of Allah.
- The RF symbol - "R"
is for "Republique". "F" is the first letter
of France, which used to rule Algeria.
