Burkina Faso 10F

  • The stamp doesn’t say "Burkina Faso". It shows the old name of the country – Republique de Haute Volta.
  • The old name was derived from the higher (haute) part of the river Volta. The river then flows south to another country – can you tell which one? (Look at the stamps from the other African countries..
  • Elephants used to roam freely in Burkina Faso long ago, but you probably wouldn’t see one if you went there today.

Burkina Faso’s railway is not electrified, so this train could not run there. Also, that’s not the river Volta in the background – it looks much more like a part of Europe.
