Lesson plan: Before and after

Age group: 7 - 11

Aims:
To introduce children to the idea of a sequence of events.

Note for teachers:
Some of the photos in the photo gallery are paired, showing production both in a home and in a factory setting.

What to do:
Explain that the photos (from the photo gallery) show cotton from the stage when it is being picked to when it is being sold as a finished article in a shop. In pairs ask children to take one photo and try to decide what is happening in it. Now ask them to draw what they think might have happened to the cotton before the stage shown in the picture, and what might happen afterwards.
