G8 2007: teach about the issues involved
This page brings together teaching resources on trade, aid, debt, health, and education topics; the issues that Oxfam and other NGOs are calling on the G8 to prioritise at this year’s summit in Germany. In 2005 you may have been involved with, or taught about, the Make Poverty History campaign. The G8 2007 is an opportunity to follow up on the promises made in response to that campaign, and explore why the issues are still important. |

About the G8 in 2007
Every year the leaders of the world’s richest and most powerful countries meet to discuss important issues facing the planet. Poor people all over the world stand to gain or lose on the basis of decisions made at these meetings.
In 2005, when millions of people around the world demanded action under the banner of Make Poverty History, these leaders promised to do more – much more – to help the world’s poorest people. Some promises were kept, but unfortunately most weren’t.
On 6 June 2007, the G8 will be meeting to discuss issues including: poverty and Africa; health; peace and security; and climate change. Oxfam, along with many other organisations and individuals, believes the G8 must work harder to put an end to poverty and suffering. This would include:
- 4 million more health workers
- access to essential medicines for all
- trade rules which are fair and just
- measures to ensure the poorest people don’t suffer most from our world’s changing climate
We have collected together some of our teaching resources on these topics to help you link your teaching to this vitally important G8 meeting.
