A note on terminology

In Oxfam Development Education publications, the terms 'Majority world' or 'the South' is used to refer to countries which many teachers will know as 'economically developing', LEDCs or 'Third World' countries.

'Majority world' or 'the South' is used to describe low- and middle- income countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.

'The North' refers to richer countries, which are sometimes called the 'First World', MEDCs or 'the West'.
