Oxfam School Speakers are fully trained volunteers who work with local schools to raise awareness of the issues surrounding global poverty, Oxfam’s work, and what teachers and pupils can do to make a positive difference in the world.
School Speakers can deliver:
- Presentations suitable for assemblies or other large group settings (up to 30 minutes)
- Workshops suitable for the classroom or other small group settings (up to one hour)
Sessions are based around Oxfam’s highly successful resource, Change the World in Eight Steps, and can cover a range of topics:
- What is Oxfam?
- The Millennium Development Goals
- Poverty
- Global health issues
- Access to education
|
Every school that books a talk will receive a copy of Change the World in Eight Steps, packed full of activities for follow up and guidance on tackling the issues around global poverty.
|
- Sessions can be tailored for pupils from 8 to 18 years old
- Suitable for work across the curriculum – especially Geography, Citizenship and PSHE
- Advice on sources of support for further global citizenship work – including local Development Education Centres and Oxfam’s resources for schools
|
|
Please Note:
Oxfam’s child protection policy dictates that School Speakers must be supervised by a teacher at all times. Teachers should be responsible for managing pupils’ behaviour during assemblies and workshops.

The school will be charged £20.00 for a School Speaker session. This charge covers:
- The cost of the poster pack (retail price: £15.00)
