Lesson plan: Creative writing
From the Bullying online resource
Resources:
You will need the following books:
Introduction and whole-class activity:
Choose one of the texts and ask the pupils to point out capital
letters and full stops and explain why they are used.
1. What other punctuation is used in the text?
Revise the use of time words, showing the passing of time.
2. Can the pupils think of any more?
Write their suggestions on the board. Read through the list of
words about bullying from the previous lesson.
3. Are the pupils clear about the meaning of the words?
4. Is there any new vocabulary to add?
Group activity:
Ask the pupils to plan and write their own stories about bullying
or being bullied. (This may need additional time for completion.)
Many of the pupils will immediately have ideas for their stories.
Others will need to be guided more carefully with a writing frame
or modelled writing led by the teacher. For some pupils the basis
for a story will need to be planned with the teacher.
Plenary:
Ask some of the pupils to share their story introductions.
