White Band Day 2 – Thanks to everyone who took part!

White Band Day 2 (10 September) was an amazing day for the Make Poverty History campaign. People in more than 80 countries united to call for trade justice, more and better aid, and debt relief for the world’s poorest nations.

In Wales, Make Poverty History campaigners (right) even climbed to the summit of Mount Snowdon to wrap a giant white band around the peak! Football fans held up placards to form a white band around the Riverside Stadium at the Middlesborough v Arsenal match, and schools from all over the UK held their own White Band Day 2 activities, from wrapping human (or paper) white bands around their school to painting fibreglass cows with an African edge!

What happens next?

White Band Day 2 in the PhilippinesWhite Band Day 3 is coming up on 10 December, to coincide with the World Trade Organisation’s Ministerial Meeting in Hong Kong from 13-18 December. Crucial decisions about global trade will take place at that meeting, so the emphasis of White Band Day 3 will be on the issue of trade.

Cool Planet will be providing you with some great activities about trade to use with your class in the week before White Band Day 3, so keep checking this page nearer the time. Also, Global Express (a free resource for use with 8-14 year olds) will be covering topics such as the outcomes of the G8, the UN Summit, Live 8 and Make Poverty History in general. This edition will be available to download from Cool Planet in mid-October.
