International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression

This day acknowledges the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse - and affirms a commitment to protect the rights of children.

Through this day every year, the UN seeks to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment in order to generate political action. This year the day is focused on the effects of a climate change on polar ecosystems and communities.

World Day Against Child Labour

An estimated 246 million children between the ages of 5 and 17 are engaged in child labour. Nearly 70 per cent of them (171 million) work in hazardous conditions such as in mines, with chemicals and pesticides in agriculture, or with dangerous machinery.

UN International Day of the African Child

This day honours the lives of the school children who marched onto the streets of Soweto in 1976. While protesting about the quality of their education and their right to be taught in their own language, hundreds were killed, and thousands injured, after the police opened fire. This day commemorates all those who stood up for their educational rights.
