Tsunami in Asia: Children's responses
Responses from group of 9-11 year olds
at Beckley Primary School, Oxfordshire, following a lesson centred
on the tsunami.
" I felt sad that some children have lost
their parents. That some people have nowhere to live. That there
are people in the places where the tsunami didn't hit that don't
know their relatives are dead.
I find it horrible to think that people are dying from
hunger and not enough medical attention, that some children have
no school to go to. That humans and animals are suffering from pain."
- Susie -
"I felt sad that everyone thought that nothing
was going to happen so millions of people were killed. Some people
were fisherman and friends with the sea. Now they want to become
farmers. What about food? What about water…?"
- Ruby -
" I felt sad that there was no urgent warning.
So many humans got killed.
I also felt sad that the people who live in the affected
countries have to build all the broken buildings, which will take
many years.
I felt sad that really young children died, so they did not have
long lives."
- Jackson -
" It's very difficult to imagine anything
like this happening as nothing ever happens in Britain. Even though
I have seen pictures, I'm still not sure that this has happened."
- Rachel -
" It is sad that special things and belongings
have been lost, things like photos especially. There were no warnings
for it coming. Nature is very strong."
- Ellie -
"I have leaned that the power of nature is
just as powerful as that of man's."
- Owen -
"I feel sad about the destruction, the deaths,
the Madras cricket ground completely destroyed. I feel sad about
the injuries, the starvation and dehydration, the affected counties
and the deaths of animals in captivity."
