Lesson plan: Sasha helps out

From the Your World, My World online resource

Age group: 4 - 7

Aims:
Through a story, to introduce the concept of helping.

What to do:
You will need:

Read Sasha's story holding up the appropriate photos. Talk about all the things that Sasha does to help his family. Now go around the class, asking children to say ways in which they help at home. Take care to ensure that doing housework is not seen to be exclusively undertaken by girls and women!

Talk about the 'rewards' that children get for helping out. Do they 'work' for pocket money, or do they help to be kind? How can sharing activities such as jobs around the house make it easier for everyone? (Sasha and his brother both help to move the heavy water carrier.) How do we feel when we help out? Why is it important?
