Zambia: Kariba Dam. Like many others, the people of Manchamvwa were forcibly moved from their homes and their good fertile farming land, in the late 1950s, when the Kariba Hydroelectric Dam was built    
 

Every day around the world, millions of gallons of water are used to generate electricity.

This is the Kariba Dam on the Zambesi River.

It is one of the first large dams in Africa, built back in 1959.
