Despite Armenia's economic growth, many small rural communities are actually getting poorer, especially in the Azerbaijan border region. Here, refugees make up half the population and many women are left to care for their families alone, usually by working on the land. But increasingly harsh winters and dry summers are affecting their crop yields.
You can help these women develop successful farming businesses by working together, and growing more climate-resistant crops. They'll also be able to take advantage of business training to increase their incomes and ultimately improve their status in society.

Irina Avenessyan fled Azerbaijan after the death of her husband. She works hard to keep her family warm and fed, but rising food prices and poor harvests is making life increasingly difficult.
Prices are rising so much in Armenia because the climate means it's getting harder to grow things. My family grows potatoes and kidney beans to sell, along with walnuts from our tree. But because of the increasingly dry weather the potato crop especially can be very bad. Oxfam is helping us by setting up a co-operative so we can sell our produce at better prices.
Your donation can help these women develop successful farming businesses by working together, and growing more climate-resistant crops.
