to cover the World Summit on Trade. Your editor has asked
you to write about a meeting arranged to discuss agricultural

Agriculture Minister from a developing country
My country had to borrow money from the International
Monetary Fund because we got into financial difficulties.
As part of the deal, we had to agree to remove all barriers
to free trade,
including tariffs on imports.
The rich countries control the International
Monetary Fund, because they supply most of its money.
The countries that give the most money get the most
votes, so we don't get much of a say. It would be better
for us if the IMF was more democratic, and if countries
that had to borrow money had more say in its decisions.
