John is doing.
John gets up
before half past five, and begins milking between
six o'clock and quarter past six.
The milking takes him about an hour and a half.
John feeds the
cows.
He goes back
to the house and has breakfast.
John begins to
do the other jobs which are necessary on the farm.
For example, he takes the cows out to pasture,
and cleans the milking shed.
In the summer,
John harvests grass, which he stores in order
to feed the animals in winter.
The stored grass is called 'silage'.
John and Richard
continue with their other jobs.
Sometimes, school parties come to the farm. The
children are very interested to see where milk
comes from and how it is produced.
Later, a milk
tanker comes to collect the milk.
John belongs to a co-operative, which collects
milk on behalf of its members and sells it to
a dairy. Grouping together like this helps the
farmers to get a better price for their milk.
The dairies then process the milk and sell it
on to the supermarkets and other buyers.
