Pupils from Elmvale Primary School in Annan raised £115 in a 1km sponsored walk carrying water on their heads. They also invited local MSP, Elaine Murray, into school to talk about their activities and the Scottish Government’s work in Africa.

  • Pupils at All Saints C of E in Bexhill-on-Sea collected coins in empty water bottles and asked for sponsorship to complete a water assault course. They worked in groups to plan and perform a presentation to share with their parents, using PowerPoint, drama, speeches and posters.
  • Pupils from Fulmer Infant School in Buckinghamshire built models, painted posters and wrote letters to politicians to show what they had learned. They collected pennies in empty water bottles, and held a sponsored walk around their playground carrying buckets of water. The school is also planning to take long term action by appointing water monitors and creating new ‘save water’ signs, as well as badges, car stickers and posters for their local library and supermarket.
  • Keys Meadow Primary School, Enfield raised £1,900 through their Marathons for Mali initiative. Every Year 4 pupil ran a mile around a total of 26 football stadiums, cricket pitches and parks across London; ultimately running their own personal marathon.   • Sixth formers at The Kingsley School, Leamington Spa organised a relay race as part of their school sports day. School houses raced each other with buckets of water to see who finished fastest without getting wet.

  • Pupils at Craneswater School in Southsea delivered 90 letters to No.10 demanding the government do more to help children who have no access to clean water. They designed their own t-shirts to highlight their message. Pupil, Ruby, 10, said: “We hope we will be able to raise lots of money for Oxfam… but more importantly we want to make sure Mr Cameron increases overseas aid. We are passionate about this.” Headteacher Dave Jones said: “I’m very proud of our children. It was their idea to write to Mr Cameron and their arguments are persuasive, because they feel so strongly about it.”
  • The Ravensbourne School in Bromley handing over their fundraising cheque for £130 to Oxfam's Ali. They raised over £130 with a ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’ challenge, and a raffle with water-related prizes.
  • St. Pirans School, Hayle, took a trip to the beach for a day of interactive learning, and came up with an inventive fundraising idea. They sold tablespoons of water to family and friends for 50p, collected the water, and poured it all into the ocean – raising more than £700. Headteacher Carol de Labat said: “It was great fun and although the school is small in pupil numbers, they made a tremendous effort and were able to raise a significant amount to show that even though it is ‘a drop in the ocean’, their determination made a difference.”
  • Dalmain Primary School’s Eco Council visited the Oxfam office in London, and took part in learning activities there. Year 6 teacher, Anjali Sewani said “the children really felt motivated to do something about this issue". "My advice to other teachers would be to have a go at some of the activities on the Water Week website, get your pupils involved, and use their ideas as a way of reaching out to the rest of the school community."

  • Pupils from Quainton Hall School, Harrow, walked across all the bridges crossing the Thames in London, from Tower to Vauxhall, raising more than £1,000.
  • The year 6 Nurture Group at Wicor Primary School, Hampshire, organised a non-unifrom day, a cake sale and a sponsored walk raising an incredible £2900. Here they are handing a cheque to Oxfam's John McLaverty.
  • 75 pupils from Perranporth Primary School walked a massive 5.8 miles across their local beach, raising £130 for Oxfam projects in Mali.

  • St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Oxford took part in a Water Week Walk around the school playground carrying buckets and bottles full of water and raising £2250. Pupil, Millie, aged 9, said "It's really hot today so it's helping me to understand what it is like for children in Mali who have to walk for miles everyday to get water. I'm really glad we are doing something to help them."

  • Year 8 students from Bourne Community College walked three miles to raise funds and awareness. They also held a non uniform ‘blue day’ in support of Oxfam Water Week. “We want to demonstrate to our young people that their actions can make a difference and have an influence on global decision makers.” Mr Burns, Curriculum Leader for Humanities
  • Water Week activities took place every day during Water Week at Stroud High School. Each year group took part in laying out coins in the shape of water drops on the front lawn, as well as activities including assemblies, cake sales and an Oxfam quiz, raising £150.
  • Chumleigh Community College in Devon held a Dragon’s Den-style competition where pupils designed eco-friendly water-saving devices and local businesses came along to judge the very best ideas. 300 pupils attended the event, which teacher Dan Hartley described as “a great success with lots of creative ideas flowing”. The college also raised £350 for Oxfam projects in Mali through various fundraising events.
