Global Teachers Award

680x150

Launched by the Consortium of Development Education Centres, and endorsed by Oxfam, the Global Teacher's Award (GTA) supports teachers in developing the skills, confidence and practical approaches to incorporate global learning into the curriculum, and to promote active global citizenship in the classroom.

How does it work

The GTA is divided into three levels:

  • Level 1 consists of six hours of training, focusing on the key concepts of global learning and practical ideas for incorporating it into the curriculum.
  • Levels 2 and 3 will be rolled out in 2013, providing even more depth of content and potentially Masters-level credits.

For further details and local training dates, or to register your interest, visit Global Classrooms or find the Global Teachers Award on Facebook. You can pay for some GTA training using Global Learning Programme e-credits.

What do teachers say?

"It was great to use some of the activities from the GTA course in the classroom. I've learned that global learning can and should be an intrinsic part of the curriculum that all schools deliver... Whether you're starting on the journey of global education or consolidating current good practice, the GTA is a brilliant way to initiate development. It recognises the work you're doing whilst stimulating your potential to affect change."

Ben Towe, Deputy Headteacher at Lewannick Community Primary School in Cornwall.

"The GTA course helped me to develop, share and exchange a huge bank of ideas and resources. I returned to school with renewed enthusiasm, confident that the curriculum we offer is of a high standard, and that our activities are helping pupils develop into global citizens. The GTA was excellent and was led with infectious passion and optimism. I've recommended it to many colleagues and can't wait to take part in Level 2"

Louise Williams, Senior Teacher & Internationalism Coordinator at St. Just Primary School, Cornwall.
