Make fundraising part of active global citizenship

Active global citizenship is about young people getting up and doing something about the issues they care about. Raising money can be a meaningful and important form of action, and can help young people become active global citizens in a range of ways.
Before you begin...
In order for young people to realise these benefits, there are some important questions to consider beforehand.
The broad principles for any approach to fundraising are summarised in the DEA (Development Education Association*) Guidelines for Good Practice in Fundraising with Young People. We recommend anyone supporting young people raising money should read this short but important advice.
Additionally, if you want to read more about fundraising and active global citizenship, click here to view a Thinkpiece on Global Learning and Fundraising by Matt Jackson, Oxfam’s Head of Public Engagement, written for the DEA.
For further advice and support, see the Oxfam Fundraising Guide for Schools. This has important questions to think about before raising money for charity, and includes practical tips and teaching ideas as well as pointing you to sources of information and activities to help you and your pupils get the most out of supporting charities.
