Request an Oxfam Speaker for your school

Available in England and Wales, Oxfam School Speakers are fully trained volunteers who can share their knowledge and passion with your students.  Explore the issues surrounding global poverty, Oxfam’s work, and what teachers and pupils can do to make a positive difference in the world through either a presentation suitable for assemblies/large group settings (up to 30 minutes), or a workshop suitable for the classroom/small group settings (up to one hour).

Sessions are based around Oxfam’s highly successful resource, Change the World in Eight Steps. They can be tailored to pupils from 8-18, and are suitable for work across the curriculum – especially Geography, Citizenship and PSHE.

The topics we cover include:

  • What is Oxfam?
  • The Millennium Development Goals
  • Poverty
  • Health and education for all
  • The human impact of Climate Change

Please Note:
Oxfam’s child protection policy dictates that School Speakers must be supervised by a teacher at all times. Teachers should be responsible for managing pupils’ behaviour during assemblies and workshops.

The school will be charged £40.00 for a School Speaker session. This charge covers the cost of the School Speaker's travel expenses and administration of the scheme.
