The festival season is nearly upon us and this year is set to be as big as the last. Once again Oxfam will be diving headfirst into the world of festival fashion with the latest looks and biggest high end brands for you to choose from.
This year we are complimenting the festival season with an Oxfam fashion shoot, a fantastic way to share the latest cutting edge festival style. Today's shoot took place in London's Russell Square at the Post Factory Studios, a haven for some of the most established fashion companies in the world. The intimate gathering included the best in the business along with Will Whipple (cutting edge photographer) and Lisa Piercy (stylist for Upstyler).
The first day of warm summer sunshine began to lift spirits throughout the capital and it proved perfect for today's festival theme. The entire selection for the shoot has been sourced from Oxfam's vast and cutting edge summer collection. Today's session comes one month before the start of the world biggest music festival season and once again we will be sharing Oxfam's high quality brands for fantastic prices at each of the major UK festivals.
Photographer Will Whipple admitted that today's shoot was more than "unconventional". Instead of a high spec photo camera, the team used a slow motion film camera that produced highly defined motion picture images, which created a unique feel and energy to the daylong session. Still images have beem extracted from the film and used for the final piece, a method not commonly used but one that is starting to generate attention from industry professionals worldwide.
"Today's shoot with Oxfam has been a very different and unique event" claims Will. "Fashion houses tend to stick to their own collection, the spontaneous nature of Oxfam's range has been a nice change". Festival fashion has continued to evolve, from the hazy days of Britpop and Grunge in the 90's, to the fresh new looks of today, festivals have always provided a platform for fashion as well as music. As new bands cut their teeth on the main stage, new, spontaneous and innovative styles continue to spring up around the country.
"Normally you could only find short term practical festival attire such as wellies and pac-a-macs", claims Lisa. "Now you can find high end, stylistic clothes that will last throughout the years." Lisa believes "you will always find something for everyone" when shopping at Oxfam. "There are so many different styles and labels, they have fantastic variety."
Lisa has been working alongside Oxfam on a number of occasions and when she took a trip to our textile plant at Milton Point she was "shocked" at what was on offer. "I went to Milton Point looking for today's outfits, we came away with a Channel dress and loads of fantastic high end stuff". Oxfam will be appearing at most major festivals in the UK this summer. We aim to repeat the success of last year's season by generating staggering sums of money. All of today's looks will be included in this season's collection, which will be featuring within
festival shops at some of the biggest music events in the country.
