118 918 - directory enquiries with a feel-good factor
We don’t know about you but we often find ourselves calling directory enquiries - whether it be when we’re waiting in the freezing cold for a bus and decide to call it quits and call a taxi, or when we’re dying for some kind of take-away the next day at home.
So we were pretty chuffed to hear that there’s a new number we can ring where 9p from every call goes to Oxfam - that adds up to quite lot of pennies if we all do it.
The number to call is 118 918 and it costs no more than the numbers you usually use for this kind of thing.
Add the number to your mobile now. The next time you make that call, you’ll be supporting Oxfam without even trying – simple.
And don’t forget to spread the word to all of your friends >>

At last - that makes sense - I'd much much rather be donating to Oxfam than being robbed by those other operators. Bravo. Nathaniel. Fulham

I just received an unsolicited commercial text message advertising this service. It appeared to come from '118 918'; when I attempted to reply I just got an error message.
I do NOT regard it as ethically acceptable for Oxfam or anyone else to send unsolicited bulk text messages. I do not know whether it is actually illegal (like spam email is) or not, but please desist.
My mobile phone inbox is for me to communicate with my friends and family - and that is all. Thank you.

Hello there Tom, we're really sorry that you've experienced problems with this. The text messages are from the company (Spiritel) that has set up the service, of which Oxfam is the beneficiary charity. If you reply STOP to the text message that should work, or contact the organisation direct.
