Do it 'In My Name'
We can be the generation that ends poverty.
In 2000, 189 governments made the historic commitment to half extreme poverty by 2015. We are halfway to the deadline, but poverty still kills 50,000 people every day.
So it’s not surprising that some people think poverty can never be ended. It can. And you have the power to make sure it happens. Not some time in the distant future, but in our generation.
Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas has joined the global call to action against poverty, and has written a powerful new song "in my name" demanding that governments act now - watch the video here.
Be part of it. Tell your leaders to act in your name to end poverty and inequality here.

Little party = Big impact.

24th - 30th November is Climate Change Film Festival week!
Get your friends together to watch a film and join the fight against climate change from your living room!
Last year... hundreds of film parties took place ahead of the UN climate conference in Bali in December 2007 to raise awareness of how climate change affects the world's poorest people. This year... you have another chance to join Oxfam supporters all over the world in hosting film parties during Climate Change Film Festival week (24th - 30th November 2008) ahead of the UN climate conference in Poland this December.
Rising sea levels, changes in weather patterns, unpredictable seasons - climate change is already devastating poor people's lives. Action needs to be taken NOW to stop climate change driving developing countries further into poverty.
Hosting a film screening, even with just a small group of friends, is the perfect way to get people talking about climate change, and to show the government just how important it is that immediate action is taken.

BYC's SnapShot60 photo competition.
What fires you up? What makes you want to change the world? Get involved in BYC’s SnapShot60 photo competition.
SnapShot60 is an all-new online photo competition from the British Youth Council for anyone 26 or under, to give you the chance to have a say and be heard across the UK. To enter, just upload a photo to the BYC website that shows what inspires or empowers you, or something you think young people should be campaigning about.
By entering the competition you’ll have the opportunity to have your work judged by professional photographers and young people. If you’re selected as a winner, there are loads of cool prizes to win, such as one of a bundle of iPods, a huge canvas print of your photo, or a trip to London for a behind-the-scenes look at the picture desk of a top style magazine!
Your work will also be exhibited across London with BYC and the winners will be announced at a parliamentary reception in December.
The competition runs until the end of October - so get involed here now! www.byc.org.uk/snapshot60

Care about climate change? Want to do something about it?

The UK Youth Delegation (UKYD) is now accepting applications to participate at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poznań, Poland this December. UKYD are building a delegation of 15 young people who know that the climate crisis is one of the defining issues of our generation and who want to take action to stop it. If we want to reduce the threat of dangerous climate change and adapt better to the changes that are already happening, we need to get involved in the international decision-making process. By joining them in Poland this December, you could help the first ever UK Youth Delegation have a strong voice in these negotiations. You will call on our government to take strong action, share important developments with people back home and connect with other 500 other youth delegates from around the world.

Get involved and End Child Poverty
"The government has made the promise of a generation - to end child poverty. Lets hold them to it"
One in three children live in poverty in the UK today, and without significant investment from the UK government this year, any progress on child poverty is at risk.
On Saturday October 4th 2008 thousands of young people, families and supporters of the Campaign from across the country will be coming together in London’s Trafalgar Square to demand the Government keep their promise to end child poverty. This promises to be the UK's biggest ever event to End Child Poverty.
Visit www.endchildpoverty.org.uk/poverty to find out more and join them.

What do you think?

Are exams still useful? – Do exams really test the ability of young people? Do pupils learn useful things at school? Are exams just an extra stress for young people? Should young people bother sitting examinations? Nelson Mandela - Freedom Fighter or Terrorist? Does Nelson Mandela’s involvement in a violent revolutionary group overshadow his political achievements? Is he a hero or a villain? Stranded: A Special Report on the state of public transport in the UK – Can young people afford to use public transport? Should there be a national concessionary fare card for young people? To find out what young people said about these topics and a host of others, read the latest jam packed issue of Debatable, the UK Youth Parliament’s quarterly magazine written by and for young people.
