Birmingham-based diva Jamelia has been a very (ahem) vocal supporter of Oxfam’s campaigns over the last few months, lending her voice to some of our biggest events.
In September she put in a great performance at the Make Trade Fair Live concert in Hammersmith, London, belting out hits such as ‘Thank you’ and ‘Taxi’, and even a cover of Limp Bizkit’s ‘Numb’.
Asked at the event what she thought about musicians getting involved in politics, Jamelia said: “We all have a responsibility to make a difference. We’re more important to many of our fans than any global politician will ever be!”
Jamelia also volunteered for the celebrity Make Trade Fair photo shoot, where she was covered in feathers.Following this, Jamelia then stepped up a gear by appearing at the Make Poverty History rally in Trafalgar Square in February, singing her single ‘Stop’ to a crowd of 22,000 onlookers.
Talking about her opportunity to perform alongside Nelson Mandela at such a key demonstration, Jamelia said: “It is a true honour to be able to perform at this momentous occasion, not only for a man I greatly admire and respect, but also for the UK public and fans around the world.”
We reckon she’s great, and hope that she’ll continue to support Oxfam’s campaigns well into the future. |
