Big Brother’s Nadia starred at a Make Poverty History awareness-raiser in Manchester’s Gay Village.
Manchester's Gay Village played host to a Make Poverty History event on Saturday 28 May, in coalition with Oxfam and the Lesbian and Gay Foundation (LGF) to raise awareness for the devastating effects AIDS and HIV have in developing countries.
The event, organised around the Beacon of Hope, the UK’s only World Aids Day Memorial, had speakers from the LGF, the George House Trust, Oxfam and a sparkling endorsement from Nadia Almada, the trans-gender, larger than life Portuguese winner of last years Big Brother.
They were supported not only by rapturous crowds, but also the local bars and businesses of Gay Village who decorated their venues in white banners and balloons. The ‘Click’ video was played on screens throughout the evening. A human white chain was formed along Canal Street with the help of the guest speakers and audience, in an attempt to get as many people to join the rally in Edinburgh on 2 July.
