Thom Yorke

Thom YorkeThe melancholic Radiohead frontman certainly hasn’t left Oxfam high and dry [ho ho – Ed.]– his dumping ordeal (being splattered with chocolate) was probably the most arduous of all the Make Trade Fair photo shoots. But it was worth putting up with the stickiness, as it became one of the project’s most striking images.

Thom is impassioned about fair trade, and doesn’t hold back on his views: “How sweet does your chocolate taste when you know the producer in a country you will never see did not even get paid enough to feed his family? How delicious is it to know that sweet taste in your mouth is one of slavery, a nice new economic model?”

To show that his near-death by chocolate wasn’t a one-off, Thom is also going to the Trade Justice Vigil on 16 April.

What’s he packing then?
“I’m going with a sleeping bag and a paint brush and maybe even a guitar if I can get it in the suitcase.”

Feel as frustrated as Tom about the injustices of global trade? Then why not join him at the Trade Justice Vigil, or sign the Big Noise Petition?
