Make Trade Fair Live - 14th September 2004

Hammersmith Apollo, London

REM's Michael StipeA night of surprise collaborations reached a stunning climax when Coldplay's Chris Martin joined REM on stage at this year’s Make Trade Fair Live gig at the London Hammersmith Apollo. The Coldplay singer ran onto the stage unannounced halfway through 'Man On The Moon', sang a verse and chorus to the track, and returned to the side of the stage to watch the rest of the group's set.

"I was introduced to the idea of fair trade because I'm a massive Coldplay fan, so I'd like to thank Chris Martin." Stipe told the audience.

JameliaThe capacity crowd had already been treated to a a duet performed by Jonny from Razorlight and Jamelia, a guest appearance from REM's Peter Buck during the Thrills set as well as some splendid singing from Oscar-nominated actress Minnie Driver.

The gig follows a similar event in 2002 where Miss Dynamite, Coldplay and Noel Gallagher performed together. All proceeds from the concert will go directly to Oxfam.
