Join thousands of people on Wednesday 2 November 2005 to lobby Parliament for trade justice.
The lobby will increase pressure on the UK Government to take the lead at the forthcoming World Trade Organisation (WTO) meeting in Hong Kong, by helping to rewrite world trade rules to benefit poor countries and the environment.
The ‘mass lobby’ (basically when lots of people go to parliament to raise the same concern with their MP at the same time) has been organised by the Trade Justice Movement, as part of the Make Poverty History campaign. It will build on the unprecedented popular support for Make Poverty History around the G8 summit in July, and the Trade Justice Vigil in April.
Half a million people in the UK have already cast a vote for Trade Justice in a special ballot calling on the Government to support fairer trade rules. Many more of us watched as the G8 leaders failed to deliver the changes needed on trade.
We need LOADS of you to come in November, and really convince your MP to call for trade justice. As the TJM website says, “The government will then face real pressure to change its policies and take action.”
When
1.00 pm, Wednesday 2 November.
The UK lobby will follow Prime Minister’s Question Time and takes place alongside lobbies being held across Europe and around the world.
Where
Westminster, London
How it will work
The TJM website says “The lobby will run from 1 pm onwards, with people forming a queue outside Parliament. The queue will be colour-coded by nation and region to enable constituents to lobby their MP together.”
There will be organised transport. Find out more on the Trade Justice Movement website >>
