The four big coffee companies - Nestlé, Kraft, Procter & Gamble and Sara Lee - make big profits while coffee farmers receive the lowest prices in 100 years.

Procter & Gamble has taken important first steps during the past year to address the global coffee crisis. With its commitment to offer Fair Trade Certified and Rainforest Alliance Certified coffees and lobby of the US Government to re-join the International Coffee Organization, Procter & Gamble has made moves to address the coffee crisis.

But what about the others? How can we get them to change? Well, for starters you can E-mail the chief executives of Nestlé, Kraft and Sara Lee NOW - demand they follow P&G’s lead by offering fair trade coffee. Tell them to give coffee farmers a break by paying a decent price for their coffee.
