World Youth Congress '05

World Youth Congress 2005A delegation of five of our youth board members attended the World Youth Congress (WYC), to learn how we can do more for youth abroad and in the UK.

For those that don’t know, the Oxfam Youth Board was created in March this year to help shape the direction of Oxfam's youth strategy, including Generation Why. Its 17 members work as volunteer advisors, providing feedback, conducting research and helping to inspire other young people to get involved with Oxfam.

World Youth Congress 2005The Youth Board were at the heart of the WYC in 2005, with John Roche and Adam Cairns our representatives on the policy writing team. Read Adam Cairns' thoughts on the congress. Becky Evans appeared on BBC Scotland for a question time on the Millennium Development Goals.

Rizwana Khan went on a cultural and dance action project, and helped to promote Make Poverty History and our Rakhi project. David Taylor helped to promote Make Poverty History, and the International Youth Parliament . He also produced a leaflet backed by Kumi Naidoo (Secretary general of CIVICUS – the Worldwide Alliance for Citizen Participation) for all delegates working on the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) campaign.

And finally Adam Askew went on an “amazing action project” in Inverclyde, which included drumming and making a music CD representing different styles and cultures.
