You could spend a few hours a week in one of Oxfam’s 750-plus shops. And if you’re thinking "There are a million places I’d rather be than stuck behind a till in a dusty charity shop", you probably haven’t been in an Oxfam shop for a while. Our shops sell loads of new stuff, like fair trade food and drink, incense, and cards. A lot of them also specialise in specific items, such as music, books or film, and we’ve got quite a few on-campus shops at universities.
Of course, being a shop volunteer isn’t just about serving customers: you would gain handy skills for your CV, such as marketing or sales strategy – as you never know what’s coming in day by day. What’s more, you don’t have to help out in the shop itself to support us – you could organise a fashion show using donated clothes, develop a media campaign, or help a shop sell its goods through the internet. It’s your chance to be creative!
