Ot Pi supports Oxfam!

Our roving campaigner Chris caught up with the legendary Ot Pi at MAD's MTB Trials and racing. MTB, for those of you who don't know, is a sport derived from Motorbike trials but uses a mountain bike instead. It's basically a lot of scary jumping and balancing between urban objects, skips, burnt-out cars and oil drums. And who invented this? The Spanish senor Ot Pi.
We met Ot fresh from some incredible stunts and told him about Make Trade Fair. He had never heard of the campaign and was instantly converted. He donned one of our funky t-shirts and pledged his support. So Make Trade Fair has broken into the urban world of MTB. Ot Pi - what a mighty fine man!

"Something needs to be done!"
Pearl, Pami, Jazz and Sally from Bridport. What's the best thing about the festival so far? "The Oxfam tent!" Why have you supported Make Trade Fair? "Because it is a good cause and something needs to be done! When people see us on the website they will automatically join up too!"

It's all good!
It's sooooooooo busy today, and the sun is shining again. People can't get enough of our tattoos, stickers, t-shirts, slip-mats, music, visuals, sofas, key rings, games, coffee, smoothies, white bands - and we're getting 1,000s of sign ups to the Big Noise petition. We're rushed off our feet, but it's all good. And it's all gonna get better - there's some wicked stuff lined up for the evening - more sport stuff, and our late night cinema should be heaving too.

"Chris Martin is a beaut!"
Rose Ahmet, Naomi Alderson, Jenny Finch, Daisy Collins, Vicky Parker (17) - all from "Bridders" in Dorset. Why do you support Make Trade Fair? "Cos Chris Martin is a beaut! And because all we do is chuck money at problems that we've caused, but we should do something about the trade rules to lift people out of poverty."

"I want to campaign at festivals now..."
Vicky Dowdeswell (17) from Bristol was really supportive of what we're doing at NASS. "I haven't been involved with Oxfam before, and this is my first time at NASS. I'm really keen to campaign with Oxfam at festivals now, because I love festivals and now I feel really passionate about the issues. Oxfam have great campaigns, especially Make Trade Fair and Control Arms, but I hadn't seen them before I came here. This tent is good, especially the iced coffee! And Oxfam coming to festivals is brilliant, because it means they get through to an audience who hadn't heard of the issues before, and really raise awareness."

"Keep smiling."
Oliver Gallegos (14) thought the Oxfam tent was cool. "Great work guys, every little counts. Keep smiling. :-)" He also had time to scribble down this little poem: A child dies every time you eat and drink A child dies every time you blink Doesn't it make you think The selfishness we humans bring?

Film tent in full effect
It's getting late now, the films are on and the tent is filled with tired and happy people. And we're still signing people up to Make Trade Fair. Anyway, I'm off to bed - a big ol' day tomorrow. Apparently Saturday is the BIG day at NASS, so we'll be busy all day long...

Making Oxfam converts
Dionne and Jenny are just two of the many action sports fans who are digging the Oxfam tent. From Crawley in West Sussex these two dudes just don't want to get off our "random" sofas! Without any bribery whatsoever they said our tent is the best thing at NASS: "We love its chilled vibe, it's just really us." This is their first festival experience in a while ("since Girl Guides actually.") They're using it as a warm up for V, where they are delighted to know they can return to our zone. Come this evening the Oxfam tent will transform into cinema central, but Dionne and Jenny can't wait till V for our dance marathons.
Loaded with Oxfam info Dionne and Jenny are ready and raring for more sporting antics. They promise not only to return for fair trade coffee but to seriously think about getting involved with Oxfam's campaigns. Now that's what it's all about!

Tattoo you...
The cafe's getting busy as people wind down after taking in the festival - banana smoothies are a personal favourite. We've been getting 100s of sign ups, the first shift has finished and Will Tucker is our campaigner-supreme, with something like 250 sign-ups in 4 hours. And people are loving our snazzy Make Trade Fair tattoos. The rest of us have been awestruck by all the people on bikes, boards and motorised things, performing all kinds of potentially bone-shattering moves. We're warming up for our late-night cinema slot tonight - we'll be showing extreme sports films and Oxfam stuff. At the moment the lazy tunes are booming out into the sunshine, and there's people arguing over a game of giant Connect 4 behind me. Happy days...

Sign ups in the sunshine
NASS-goers finally arrive in their droves, and start signing-up to the campaign... Blimey, it's hot here! The dudes on bikes, skates, boards and much more must be feeling the heat a bit. There must be every kind of ramp, pipe, rail and track here, and they've all been set up literally over night. It's looking set for a cracking festival.

Sun is shining...
Well we've cleaned and polished the van, had a look round the site (it looks awesome - so much stuff going on) and now we're waiting in the sunshine for the people to arrive... We've also had our campaigner briefing - we'll be collecting sign ups for the Big Noise petition and telling people about the Make Trade Fair campaign. It's all activity in the tent right now, putting the finishing touches to the cafe and our tent...

The campervan arrives...
Well we've arrived at the site and it's all taking shape. The Oxfam tent is looking wicked, complete with MASSIVE banners, a lovely coffee shop and sofas galore. There's some big diggers building an almighty dirt track next door, too. And what's more, we just took delivery of our magnificent Oxfam festival campervan- courtesy of some heroic driving from our Music4Life supremo, Nat Perkins. Well done, that man. We're off now to settle in, have a barbecue and have a look round the site. Everything opens tomorrow, and I can't wait for people to start arriving...

On the road soon

Well, we'll be out on the open road soon, armed with wet wipes, wellies, helmets and skateboards. Sadly, the NASS community will be spared my own personal prowess on a board, but we're lookin forward to seeing some amazing stuff over the weekend. We've also piled our van high with comfy sofas, giant board games and loads of info about Make Trade Fair and Make Poverty History. Let's hope the sun comes out soon, it should be an awesome weekend.

Oxfam at NASS!
It's NASS (the National Adventure Sports Show) this weekend and we can't wait - it's our first year at the festival. It looks brilliant - skate and BMX parks, mountain bike trials, downhill and mountain boarding, as well as music from the likes of the Sugarhill Gang and Killa Kela. We'll be hosting a coffee tent with sofas, games and DJs during the day, and a cinema at night. We'll also have campaigners at the festival, telling people about the Make Trade Fair campaign, and encouraging people to lend their support to the Big Noise petition. If you want the latest news from NASS, we'll be adding live updates to this here blog, with pictures from the event and news about the campaign. Let's hope the sun comes out!

Festivals, festivals, festivals!
Yes you saw us at Glastonbury but we were just getting warmed up... Before July is out Oxfam will be living it large at NASS (Europe's largest National Adventure Sports Show), GLADE (the UK's biggest and best electronic dance music festival), Lovebox (a chilled summer day with Mylo, Groove Armada and of course Oxfam) and finally at WOMAD (the World of Music, Arts and Dance Festival). August will rock with the famous V Festival and Carling Weekend, and September will bring our festival season to a close with the eclectic sounds of Bestival. To find out more take a peek at What's On. If you're going to any of these festivals, and even if you're not, make sure you check out this fantastic festival blog - bringing you great pics during and after each festival, and updates about what Oxfam is getting up to. Today, as you can see, the office is crazy and crowded as we pack up and head out for sporting adventure and full-on campaigning at NASS. Keep your eye on this blog for the latest.
