Extreme sports and great campaigning at the National Adventure Sports Show.
Take a look at our great
photo gallery for more images of what we got up to.
We mingled with the bikers, boarders and skaters at NASS 05 to raise awareness about the Make Trade Fair campaign. NASS marked the first of a series of festivals this summer – including V, Reading/Leeds and Bestival – where we’ll be campaigning (and having a great time too).
For this, our first year at NASS, we had a café/film tent (‘The best thing at the festival!’ people kept telling us) – filled with sofas, board games, DJs and a massive cinema screen playing extreme sports films at night. It all provided a touch of much-needed relaxation for exhausted festival-goers over the weekend.
There was also a whole load of information about Make Trade Fair – which aims to put pressure on global leaders to change global trade rules. Trade is a crucial part of the Make Poverty History campaign, and was one of the key elements missing from the G8 summit in July.
Whilst at NASS our brilliant team of campaigners collected well over 5,000 signatures for the Big Noise Petition, which calls for decision makers around the world to Make Trade Fair. And the punters just couldn’t get enough of our Make Trade Fair tattoos (see the festivals blog for loads of tattoo-pics).
They also LOVED our Generation Why t-shirts, Oxfam slip-mats, stickers, white bands, music, visuals (courtesy of our genius VJ Anna), key rings, games, fair trade coffee, smoothies and, of course , the brilliant ALL-NEW Oxfam campervan… Look out for our magic green bus at a festival near you this August.
As one NASS-goer, Vicky Dowdeswell (17, right) from Bristol said, “Oxfam coming to festivals is brilliant, because it means they get through to an audience who hadn't heard of the issues before, and really raise awareness."
